Kickboxing is the Sport and Martial Art whereby students may combine fighting techniques from other arts i.e. Boxing, Thaiboxing, Karate and Kung Fu in order to compete to a very high level in a Ring against an opponent. Kickboxing is also a method of Self-Defence as well as being superb for keep fit and is practised by Sports people of all kinds to enhance their fitness.
Kickboxing exists today because in the 1970's, westerners who practised Martial Arts wanted to test their fighting ability against their counterparts in the East, mainly Japan. Therefore, a system of rules was drawn up acceptable to both parties, enabling them to compete against each other to see who could win out in a series of matches between the two "worlds". One of the first Champions was an American named Benny "The Jet" Urquidez from Los Angeles via Mexico. He managed to beat the best that Japan could throw at him resulting in him becoming a legend in the Sport of Kickboxing and later going into Films.
In today's Kickboxing Martial Art classes, you will find people from all walks of life and all ages training in a relaxed atmosphere. You will see students doing "Padwork" in pairs, Skipping, "Shadow fighting", Exercising, Sparring with others and generally working on techniques towards their next level or Belt.
Would be students that wish to participate in Kickboxing without fighting are welcome at many clubs as there is a great demand for kickboxing's fitness benefits. Kickboxing training is way up the list of very demanding fitness pursuits and has an immense benefit on cardiovascular and flexibility areas. Along with this comes muscle toning and potential weight loss combined with a great sense of fun.
POINTS SPARRING - - SEMI-CONTACT SPORT KICKBOXING
is ... by far the most popular discipline. The objective is to penetrate your opponents defences and deliver an effective and controlled technique with your hands or feet. The scoring system is (1 pt) for punching; body kicks and sweeps. (2 pts) for head kicks and jumping kicks to body. (3 pts) for a jumping kick to head. Each time a fighter scores; the match is stopped and the judges score the point(s). The winner is the fighter with the highest score when time has ran out.

LIGHT-CONTINUOUS KICKBOXING
The objective of this is to hit your opponent with as many techniques as possible with control.
There is no stopping to award points for any of the clean contact techniques made. These are calculated up at the end of the round(s). The winner is the fighter whom landed the most techniques; and who ever was judged to be technically better.
... Either of these; if practised regularly, will provide a good cardiovascular workout.

How To Tie Your Belt
How to tie your belt is probably the first thing that confuses new students. A properly tied belt will look like it has only a single layer (only one "strip" of belt will show at any point) and the knot in the front will look a little like a Chinese fortune cookie. It looks a little confusing at first but with practice you'll have it down in no time. Here's a very detailed explanation of how to do it.
How To Tie Your Handwraps
Hand injuries side line more boxers than any other injury. Because there are so many small bones in your hand, it is absolutely imperative that you take every precaution available to protect them. Proper hand wrapping is the best method of preventing an injury that could keep you out of this great sport. We recognize the importance of protecting your hands and have provided the following instructions to teach you the proper method.
Please keep in mind that this is a general guide and other methods do exist.
